I did enjoy the story itself, but found it difficult to pinpoint the time period in which it occurred. There were very few details to mark the era. I found myself distracted FROM the story, while hunting for references to anything that would give a clue. For example, in the first chapter, the heroine was riding a horse and the ranch hands talked about contacting the sheriff. So, maybe old west or turn of the last century? Then the picture in the heroine's locket was referred to as an old black and white photograph. If it was in either time period mentioned, the photo wouldn't have to have been specified as B & W. I would have appreciated knowing if the heroine had been told where to find the outhouse or had washed up in the pitcher and bowl or had buttoned up her boots or had a tear in the hem of her petticoat...ANYTHING to give a clue as to the WHEN of this story taking place. That continued throughout the story in all aspects. Though I eventually assumed it to be pre1900, the lack of detail made it difficult to become fully drawn into the book. The dialog was no help, either, as it was not representative of the time periods mentioned. Again, I liked the storyline, but it was not well-researched. If it was researched at all, the details the author dug up were not incorporated into the story. The details would have helped bring the book to life and let the reader visualize it.

Fallen Angel Melissa Jones 9781484972182 Books Reviews

Where would you go to find a western - mystery with a little romance thrown in for all the young ladies? Why to Fallen Angel of course. There are so many plots and sub-plots woven together in such a wonderful tapestry that you end up looking over both shoulders and holding your breath until the very end. Melissa Jones does a wonderful job building the characters and pulling you into their lives. I wouldn't be surprised to see this book series do very well given the broad audience it appeals to. Even though I don't read books of this genre, I made an exception for this book.
What a shame that Melissa Jones didn't have anyone read this before publication. The story had fine elements, but the lack of continuity in dialogue, lack of proper grammar and punctuation was unforgivable. I would love to read the next book, but couldn't endure the pain. This should have been edited and reduced to half-length.
I can't imagine that anyone edited this book. The story line is engaging and the characters are moderately well developed; it holds the reader's interest. However, there are so many errors in punctuation, spelling and grammar that it makes it almost impossible to read. I persevered to the finish in part because I was interested in the story and in part because I just wanted to see if the mechanics got any better (they didn't). I believe the author probably has more good stories to tell, but needs to find a competent editor. (Stick with content and let someone else take care of the mechanics!)
Luke and Angie's story was one of mystery....intrigue....suspense...and of course love. The author did a fantastic job of creating a wonderful story of two people finding each other despite all they had to face. Angie finding out her father was an evil man and Luke trying to keep her safe after she regained most of her memory was all such a great story. The characters were very enjoyable and easy for the reader to connect with. Highly recommend.
There are a lot of grammar issues and spelling errors in the version that slows down the flow of reading. For the most part the story was good but I've read similar plots at least it held my interest enough to finished the book.
The most interesting thing I found about this book was that it took me a while to determine if it was contemporary western or historical.

It was a pretty good mystery because I thought the killer could have been any number of people. The author really kept me guessing.

I won't mention anything about the killer, but I will say that I finally figured out this was not contemporary. The absence of cars, cell phones, and computers helped. The mention of
chemises, pantaloons, discussion of a woman's virtue, and women being referred to as 'harlots' confirmed it.
I made it about a third of the way through this book, then just gave up. There was no depth to any of the characters, and it was full of run on sentences. The amnesia and attempt at mystery seemed strained and unbelievable. The writing style was choppy and hard to read. I usually find something good to say about most books, but this one just didn't cut it. Sorry!
